HAUS DER KRIEGERHUNDE

GENETICALLY ADVANCED TACTICAL CANINES

In support of Burns Group International Counterterrorism Training Center’s operations, charitable programs, and to provide superior working dog solutions to US Military, State, and Local governments, we have established our own in-house breeding program to produce genetically advanced working dogs that are second to none. Known as Haus der Kriegerhunde “House of the Warrior Dogs”, our breeding program specializes in breeding and training truly world-class working line German Shepherds from genetically hard, confident, stable, very high-drive bloodlines, with superior genetic health histories that are free of Hip Dysplasia (HD), Elbow Dysplasia (ED), Degenerative Myopathy, and other genetic health issues.  Our breeding’s produce exceptional puppies that are ideally suited for work as tactical canines, personal protection dogs, or as top-level competitors for dog sports such as the Royal Dutch Police Dog Association’s KNPV.

National security should not be outsourced, and our breeding philosophy clearly evidences our passion for the breed and our commitment to excellence.  We are proud members of the Verein für Deutsche Schäferhunde (SV), the German Shepherd Association, a breed club founded in Germany in 1899 by Captain Max von Stephanitz and his colleague Arthur Meyer, which defined the standards of the German Shepherd breed.  Captain von Stephanitz and Meyer were firm believers that the most important trait of the German Shepherd is its work-ability.  Aesthetics are less important and “cannot put the dog’s working ability into question.”, as stated in the original SV breed standards.  As members of the American Kennel Club (AKC), and World Union of German Shepherd Associations (WUSV), Haus der Kriegerhunde strictly adheres to the original breed standards as set forth in the SV’s breeding program.

Our dogs have the finest European bloodlines but were bred and trained in the United States. The primary goal of our strict breeding program is to improve the qualities of the German Shepherd, and we believe that the most beautiful German Shepherds are the ones who truly excel at military, police, and protection work, and which you can see that their work is their passion.  Our objective is to produce German Shepherds with outstanding courage, temperament, athleticism, and loyalty, that are exceptionally smart, trainable, hard, and tough, both physically and mentally, and most importantly 100% reliable.  Health is of critical importance in a working dog, so we scrutinize bloodlines to ensure they are free of genetic health issues for as many generations as we can track, which in many cases is as far back as the early 1960’s when they began evaluating dogs and recording HD evaluations in the SV registry.  We will only breed dogs with German “A-normal” or “A fast-normal”, or Dutch, Belgian, or international “A” Hip Dysplasia qualifications, and who have tested “DM free”, to ensure we are producing the healthiest German Shepherds possible.  Additionally, because we believe that you do not have to sacrifice beauty for workability, we want to our breeding’s to produce aesthetically stunning German Shepherds, so our breeding dogs come from lines that have consistently achieved conformation ratings of Vorzuglich “V” (Excellent), or Vorzuglich Auslese “VA” (Excellent Select), as well as KörKlasse 1 “KKL1”, a rating that is awarded to dogs that have been breed surveyed and are “recommended” for breeding high breeding quality representatives of the breed.  This strictly adhered to philosophy allows us to produce exceptional puppies that are ideally suited for jobs in military / private military contracting, law enforcement, personal protection, tracking, detection, search & rescue,  personal protection, or high-level KNPV, APA, PSA, or Schutzhund competition.  Our dogs are not couch potatoes, so we are select about who we sell our puppies to, so that we can ensure they go to an ideally suited home and owner, so that they will be used to their full potential and be excellent representatives of the breed and Haus der Kriegerhunde.  Finally, we always try to maintain two mother lines, so that if one line produces lesser stock it can be phased out and replaced with superior genetics, as well our semen bank allows us to capture the genetic potential of our best performing dogs and meet the most demanding requirements of the military, private military companies (PMC), law enforcement, and counter-poaching units that operate in some of the harshest environments on the planet.

We begin touch, handling, stimulation, and desensitization work with our puppies shortly after birth which progressively increases to include loud noises, lights and other visual stimulation, various surface types, weather conditions, etc.  They are ranch raised which allows them regular exposure to various types of wildlife including elk, deer, bighorn sheep, bear, cougar, coyote, bobcats, and various types of upland birds, assisting in desensitization to wildlife, and they split their time between our climate-controlled kennel facility with indoor/outdoor runs and our home, where they are exposed to and begin being desensitized to cats, vacuums, and activities of daily living.  We believe this helps us instill confidence and stability in our puppies, avoid reactivity and separation anxiety, and begin the work of training a 100% reliable working dog that will not fail you when it matters most.

To work as a military, private military company, law enforcement, or personal protection dog, a dog must be able to work comfortably in both their “defense drive” and their “fight” drive. We take this into consideration first with the selection of our genetics, then with the training of our puppies.  Regardless of whether they stay with us on a training contract for a client, are the pick of the litter pups that we keep for our breeding program or to work overseas with us, beginning in their bite development phase, all Haus der Kriegerhunde puppies that stay with us start training in the dog sport of Schutzhund.  Schutzhund is German for Protection Dog, and was later competitively known as IPO, is now known as IGP, and is a dog sport that tests a dog’s obedience, tracking, and protection skills to evaluate if the dog has the appropriate traits and characteristics of a good working dog, and in addition to staying true to the heritage of the breed is why we use it as part of our puppies developmental training.  In addition, our puppies train in KNPV, the Royal Dutch Police dog sport that was developed by the Dutch government to provide a certification program for civilians to train and title dogs that were then eligible to be made available for service with the Royal Dutch Police.  KNPV dogs are famous for their power, strength, athleticism, and discipline because of the KNPV setting high standards to ensure the exceptional quality of their working dogs. These sports do not make our dogs ready for service work, in fact nothing could be further from the truth.  However, they do allow us to build the puppies confidence, develop their nose, bite, grip, toughness, defense and fight drives, reliability, and we can effectively evaluate them to determine what type of work each puppy is ideally suited for while the puppies sexually and physically mature to the point that they are ready for their operational training.  Then depending on their mission, they will be trained to exceed Department of Defense (DoD) Military Working Dog (MWD) standards, as well as the National Police Canine Association (NPCA) certification standards for patrol, tracking/trailing, detection, and Special Response Team (SRT).  In addition, all Haus der Kriegerhunde breeding males and females will obtain at least a Schutzhund IGP1, KNPV PH1 title, or National Police Canine Association (NPCA) Patrol certification, as well as undergo hip and elbow certification, DNA genetic health condition testing, and receive breeding approval prior to being bred.  The result of this rigorous breeding and training program are extreme-drive, confident, stable, and reliable tactical working canines that you can count on in your moment of truth.
