Basic Tactical Emergency Medicine is an 8-hour course designed to teach students the skills necessary to assess and treat severe blunt trauma, soft tissue injuries, musculoskeletal injuries, as well as life-threatening medical and environmental emergencies. The course curriculum is based on Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) core concepts. TECC is the civilian version of the military’s Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) – TECC was developed to bring a combat level of care to civilian first responders.
Assessing for potential head injuries
C-spine immobilization and helmet removal
Wound care (steri-strips, glue, suturing)
Splinting and immobilizing using the SAM Splint
Recognizing life-threatening medical and environmental emergencies
