This course is designed to teach the student individual tactics and the use of the rifle in close range, high speed, defensive scenarios. The individual will learn the rapid assumption of various shooting positions to maximize the use of cover and concealment and to provide for a more stable firing platform.
Topics covered include:
The legalities of deadly force
Firearms safety as it pertains to rifles and lethal encounters
Marksmanship fundamentals: stance, grip, sight alignment, trigger press, follow through
Conditions of carry, carry techniques, ready positions, mounting of the rifle from the ready and carry/slung positions
Firing positions: primary positions, secondary positions, special positions
Speed reloading, tactical reloading, malfunction drills
Rapid engagement of single and multiple opponents, rapid target acquisition
Pivoting and traversing
Individual tactics, tactical safety, movement, channelization, utilization of distance
Tactical management of danger areas such as doorways, corners, stairwells, etc.
Proper utilization of cover and concealment
Defining the role of the rifle in defense, rifle terminology, rifle types and selection
Requirements/advantages of the rifle, shotguns vs. rifles
A full night fire / low light session
Carry systems, accessories, modifications, sights
Realistic ranges, rifle ballistics and "stopping power"
Prerequisites:
CONCEALED WEAPONS PERMIT or LAW ENFORCEMENT CRIMINAL HISTORY REPORT MUST BE PRESENTED AT CLASS. If you do not have a concealed weapons permit, you may use a criminal history report from the W.S.P background check service located at http://www.wsp.wa.gov/crime/criminal-history/. Students must be totally familiar and comfortable with their handgun. Students must have completed our Defensive Pistol - 1 course or equivalent from a recognized training provider. The firearms training will be conducted on an outdoor range and while we get over 300 days of sunshine here at the ranch, be prepared for inclement weather including heat, wind, rain, or snow. Students should be physically fit enough to walk a short uphill trail to the training range.
Required Equipment:
Semiautomatic, magazine-fed, iron-sighted carbine with sling (low power optics acceptable), 1000 rounds of brass-cased, FMJ ammunition minimum (no steel core ammunition), 3 carbine magazines (minimum), handgun with 100 rounds and holster gear, carbine mounted flashlight , hearing and eye protection, knee and elbow pads recommended.
